HIMOLOGY - Gentleman's Boxset
King Adroit
Maison De Funk are proud to present our third collaboration with an artist from Pittsburgh's thriving underground scene, KING ADROIT.
This is HIMOLOGY Vols. 1 & 2, probably some of the smoothest summer hip-hop you could hope for, perfect for idle drives in the car, barbeques and late-night parties in the breeze!
Himology Vol. 1 emerges as a coming-of-age chronicle filtered through dusty soul loops and lo-fi drums. Adroit wears his Pittsburgh roots proudly, inviting listeners into record stores, front porch conversations, and late-night reflections.
Over warm, nostalgic samples Adroit skilfully creates a soundstage which allows the listener to focus on his lyrics and voice. Standouts are the opener, "Pinkys Record Store", an ode to local creative havens; Adroit's playful takedown of performative toughness on "The Simp-Sons"; and the uplifting "Black Mahogany".
Features from Drew Prince, Pen Lordz' Arsinel, and O Finess never overshadow the central story. Instead, this feels more like peers engaged in conversation.
Volume 2 ramps up the ambition, with live instruments and richer arrangements giving Adroit even more room to stretch.
"Pittsburgh Summers" paints vivid hometown scenes with cinematic detail; "Simpology" – flips vulnerability into resilience, whilst "Learn How to Live" makes for a philosophic finale that lingers after the close
Guest spots from Bless Picasso, Branue, Jay Ruff Bone White, and Pen Lordz reinforce the album’s communal spirit. Their contributions feel purposeful, amplifying Adroit’s message rather than diluting it.
