Scoop Dolla’s Digi Scale, a collaborative project with producer Afyktos, is a raw, compact 9-track album that channels the gritty legacy of the 1980s crack era through the lens of Buffalo’s modern-day street narratives. Each track is a tightly packed capsule of coded language, survivalist wisdom, and regional pride.

From the opening moments there’s a palpable tension — Afyktos’ production leans into minimalist, sample-heavy loops that evoke the cold, calculated precision of digital scales and street transactions. 

Tracks like “65 to 55” (featuring Jae Skeese) and “Turkey Bagz” (with OG Sole) are steeped in the vernacular of hustling, but Scoop Dolla’s delivery isn’t just braggadocio—it’s reflective, almost weary, as if haunted by the generational echoes of Reaganomics and systemic neglect.

Buffalo elder Elcamino brings a smoky menace to “Woulda Coulda Shoulda,” while Buffalo Flame adds a soulful edge to the closer “Love,” hinting at the emotional toll beneath the hardened exterior. Even the skit midway through the album feels intentional, like a pause to catch breath in a world that rarely allows it.

What makes Digi Scale compelling isn’t just its thematic homage to the crack era—it’s how Scoop Dolla and Afyktos used that backdrop to explore cycles of ambition, trauma, and coded resilience. It’s not nostalgia; it’s a reckoning. Weigh in!
